
Kirk Smothers started playing the saxophone at age 13 and quickly excelled, earning many awards and accolades. Following high school he continued his studies with Gene Rush at the University of Memphis. While pursuing his education he began his professional endeavors.
During his three decades of performing he has played on dozens of recordings; including, Guy Sebastion, Buddy Guy, Sloberbone, Peter Gallahger, and many more.
His movie soundtrack and score credits include: Hustle and Flow, Soulmen, and The Barnyard.
Kirk has thousands of live performances to his credit. Some of the more notable include: The Conan O’brien show with Ike Turner, A tribute to Sam Cooke at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, Gavin Degraw, and Peter Wolf; The Soul comes Home Show (the 25th anniversary of Stax Records) with, Al Grenn, Carla Thomas, Percy Sledge, Michael McDonald, Warren Hayes, and Mavis Staples; and multiple performances with legends, Isaac Hayes, Eddie FLoyd, William Bell, Booker T. and the MG’s, Rufus Thomas, The Temptations, and more.
